3 Spa to try in a cold winter weekend

Gloomy mid-winter weekends require a reaction. It’s time to slip into warm thermal pools, to enjoy emotional showers, to walk on pointed stones.

The winter weekends are made to laze in front of the fireplace, laze on the sofa during a marathon dedicated to our favorite TV series, read that book that rests on the bedside table for two years, clean the house thoroughly in view of the summer. Or, definitely better option, to spend a handful of hours in a cozy spa, maybe with its own thermal springs, including heated pools, massages, salt caves, chrome therapy showers, regenerating mud and other amenities. A weekend dedicated to wellness that can also be the excuse for a couple excursion maybe combining the Spa a town full of history and charm or a restaurant of good reputation or even a surprise postponement of Valentine’s Day, which would make the recurrence less ritual.

And since the ingredients are spa, history and food, the first proposal for a winter weekend at the spa concerns Tuscany. And in San Casciano dei Bagni, a small town in the province of Siena, the three elements align perfectly. You can choose between a more basic solution, staying in a b & b or in an apartment in the historic center and then take advantage of the free thermal baths, which contain water from 37 to 42 degrees.

You have to equip yourself and know how to adapt, but the emotion of splashing in hot water while outside the cold rages, in the same places chosen by the ancient Romans, has its indisputable charm. For those who prefer more comfortable solutions, there is the Fonteverde Resort, a thermal hotel with its own restaurant. In this way you can spend a day in a bathrobe and slippers, without ever going out, switching between room, swimming pools, sauna and Turkish bath. The thermal history of this town is so ancient that archaeologists have discovered a real treasure of statues and coins, so important to have been exposed to the Quirinale.

To stay further north and also take advantage of the beneficial contrast between the cold mountain air and the warm steam of the Spa, you can head towards the Val di Non. In Predaia, in the province of Trento, you can have fun among the Kneipp path, footbath with sea salts, emotional showers, ice and hay grotto, Finnish sauna, bio sauna with alpine herbs and of course swimming pools and whirlpool, in the Spa of the Pineta Resort. Indoor and outdoor pools with water at 35 degrees, massages and various treatments to relax and have fun while admiring the mountains, maybe staying in a chalet heated by a typical rustic wood stove and enriched by a bathtub placed on the terrace. A trip to the medieval sanctuary of San Romedio and a visit to the castle of Coredo will give the weekend a slight cultural connotation.

The triptych closes in Bormio for a walk, of course with bath included, in the Forest of the gods. The spa is that of QC Terme Bagni Nuovi, a spa that also offers an infinity pool with panoramic views of the Alps. But returning to the experience in the Wood, the program includes the relaxation of the Minerva Room, the immersion in the pools of Moon and Apollo and the dive in the source of Egeria. After the evening, the pool of Venus is ideal for night baths, perhaps illuminated by the constellations designed and illuminated on the bottom.

And to rest after so much relaxation, if for an antimonarchico bike you do not want to stay in the royal suite built for the stay of Vittorio Emanuele, complete with Corinthian columns and frescoed ceiling, you can always prefer a panoramic apartment with views of the peaks, of which in the area there is good availability. Also in this case, not to spend all the time between room and sauna, better to schedule some tourist stops: in addition to the paths of the Stelvio National Park there are the ancient buildings of Bormio, the Kuerc, the Bajona Tower, the Palazzo De Simoni, the Collegiate Church of San Vitale.
