The Devil Wears Prada 2, written and directed by AI

Miranda, Emily and Andrea could come back after twenty years in the Runway editorial staff. We asked AI to imagine 3 potential sequels

By

The rumors of these weeks fuel the hopes of fans: The Devil Wears Prada 2 will happen: according to the American weekly Variety, the screenwriter of the first chapter Aline Brosh McKenna would be in talks with Disney for a sequel coming in 2025-2026. Surely the return of a cult of the early 2000s, which made dream (and scare) aspiring fashion journalists and designers, which is grafted into the film trend of the poor originality disguised as nostalgia. More information on the plot if they do not have; someone hypothesizes the transposition of Revenge Wears Prada. The Return of the Devil, second novel by Lauren Weisberger, literary mother of Miranda & Co.

At this moment the fantasy can still run: what can the ChatGPT oracle reveal about the possible plot?

The eco-friendly twist of The Devil Wears Prada: Eco-Couture

Take a champion of sustainable fashion, Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), and a dragon of greenwashing, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), let them fight in the name of a cleaner world and this plot will come out:

"Ten years after leaving Runway, Andy has become a leading figure in the world of sustainable fashion. He founded EcoChic, an online magazine dedicated to promoting ethical and sustainable fashion. Meanwhile, Miranda continues to run her newspaper with an inflexible style. After a speech by Andy on sustainable fashion, which catches the attention of the media around the world, Miranda sees an opportunity in this field: invites Andy to collaborate on a new project: Eco-Couture, a series of editions dedicated to sustainable fashion. Andy accepts the offer, but soon realizes that Miranda is more interested in leveraging the sustainability trend to increase sales rather than making a real change. The first, supported by Nigel Kipling (Stanley Tucci), the second by Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), will come to a confrontation that threatens their personal lives and the future of the magazine".

Revenge is a dish to be served cold: The Devil Wears Prada, and never sleeps

The viewer feels a certain attraction to the villains of the movies, often not even too hidden. If the villain is Miranda then, with her sharp charm and iconic hits, the attraction can become veneration. It is almost hoped that in the sequel "win" on Andy:

"After leaving Runway, Andy managed to build a successful career as an investigative writer in one of the most important magazines in New York: she also found a good balance with her boyfriend Nate. All is well until the magazine begins to suffer from serious financial problems, so much so that its publisher approaches Miranda Priestly for a potential merger with Runway: The devil has never forgotten Andy’s talent and sees this merger as an opportunity to bring her back to her world. Andy reluctantly accepts, given the precariousness of his job, convinced that this time he will be able to keep control of the situation. However, Miranda has not lost her manipulative touch: she begins a subtle psychological battle between the two, with Miranda imposing increasingly demanding demands and Andy trying to maintain her integrity and independence. Exhausted, she decides to face Miranda openly, declaring that she wants to leave Runway to follow her own path. Admired by Andy’s determination, the director still manages to win: thanks to her influence, she ensures that Andy gets a prominent position in another prestigious magazine, away from Runway, but where Miranda still has some influence. In this way, he maintains control over Andy, though indirectly: his influence will always be a presence in the professional life of the former assistant".

From stables to stars: The Devil seeks heir

For the "eri come l'oro ora sei come loro" series, Andy turned into what she hated and, surprise, she doesn’t regret it:

"Even the devil retires: Miranda has suddenly decided to retire; Runway remains without a guide and risks losing his identity. It unleashes a frantic race for the heir to the throne of fashion: Andy, eager to claim his place in the fashion world and determined to redeem himself from the harsh lessons of Miranda, begins to orchestrate a series of games under the table to discredit potential successors. Emily, now project manager of a prestigious European fashion house, emerges as a leading contender for the role. However, Andy, with the help of old contacts in the industry and some strategies, manages to expose a series of financial problems that undermine Emily’s candidacy. Nigel, meanwhile, tries to re-enter the fashion world as an independent designer of great success: even for him will be enough a farcical scandal to destroy his credibility and his aspirations. With each contender eliminated or compromised, Andy emerges as the obvious choice to take on the role of director: the same cunning tactics, The relentless determination and desire for success at all costs that she once had found repellent in Miranda have now become part of her own behavior.

Quoting the film, "even if I call Aline Brosh McKenna in person I will not be able to get the script for The Devil Wears Prada 2": for a while longer we will have to settle for fantasizing.
