Scrolling through the catalogs of streaming platforms has become a perpetual deja vu, especially in the world of animation. Readjusting is the imperative that moves the writers; the live action version is easier, for a sector that seems to have finished fantasy, desire and money to risk with the news. Riding the feeling of nostalgia so much loved by the spectators, I also think they are unwilling to get out of their comfort zone, seems to be the only way: so live action in all the sauces, with characters more emotionally complex, attractive for an adult audience. If this is the way, when will there be a Netflix drama series about characters from our childhood? And why Geronimo Stilton?

The mouse editor of green dress, born from the pen of Elisabetta Dami in 1997, is a true worldwide phenomenon of children’s literature: translated into 50 languages, 35 million copies sold only in Italy, you can say that since the late Nineties there is no child who has not taken the first steps in reading holding a Geronimo Stilton in his hands. Today that child spends his nights devouring episodes of Game of Thrones: why not write a beautiful fantasy series, but taken from The Kingdom of Fantasy? If only Netflix could find a way to replicate the scents and stinks of the pages to rub, Daenerys Targaryen could easily find herself ousted from the throne of queen of TV series.

The drama and the mistakes, however, attract more audiences than the fantasy genre. We need to think of more complex characters, showing weaknesses and vices; perhaps in the context of a troubled love story. We think of the Stilton family as a powder keg of problems clumsily hidden under a carpet too small: cousin Trappola assiduously frequents the Topazia racecourse and his pockets suffer; Aunt Lippa and her grandfather Torquato do not speak to each other because of an old legacy linked to the newspaper l'Eco del Roditore; Benjamin, Geronimo’s grandson, wonders why he is surrounded by an avalanche of cousins and does not know who his parents are. Certainly that strong resemblance to the journalist uncle hides something... . At the Christmas dinner, Geronimo must announce the wedding with his historical girlfriend Tenebrosa Tenebrax, yet she does not show up. In his place a letter: the story is over, for years he has been hiding a relationship with the detective and best friend of Geronimo, Ficcanaso Squitt.

The Stilton universe would also lend itself to a female sitcom, starring Tea Stilton and the TeaSisters (do you know the pink necklace?). Tea and friends are the queens of Topaz nightclubs; their adventures take place between trips abroad and intricate relationships, detailed about their group Whatsapp. At the center Tea Stilton, emancipated girl who carries on a relationship with Iena, the muscular and machista malessere of Che fifa sul Kilimanjaro!: Her friends will do everything to open her eyes and not to get back in the we meet for a coffee clarification.
