Where, how and what to follow in Paris 2024

By

European football championship archived, with the triumph of Roja over England, now it’s time for the Olympics: 100 years after its last time, from 26 July to 11 August Paris will host the XXXIII edition of the Olympic Games. Now impossible to find a room without leaving half a salary and difficult to grab a ticket for the grandstands of the opening ceremony (the price of the last available seats fluctuates between 1600 and 2700 euros) to mere mortals it only remains to follow them comfortably from the stands of the house. Fans, comfort food and no time zone problem to think about, it remains to figure out when, where and how to follow Paris 2024.

The opening ceremony will be, this year more than ever, not to be missed: for the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, in fact, the parade of athletes will not take place in a stadium but outdoors, along the Seine. Each delegation will cross 6 kilometers of river, from the Austerlitz bridge to the Eiffel Tower, on a boat, involving the entire city and giving everyone, free of charge, the opportunity to participate in the most important sporting event of the year. For those who want to follow her from home, the options are different, although the Olympic TV rights are exclusive to Warner Bros-Discovery: Eurosport, DZN, Sky, Rai. Rai has signed an agreement to broadcast in clear the Olympic Games, winter and summer, until 2032: the state television has won 360 hours of competitions for this edition, but what are the competitions not to be missed?

The full day-to-day programme of sporting events is available on the official Paris 2024 website and will allow sofa fans to organize their own immersive sports sessions. Athletics is among the most anticipated disciplines, a bit 'because winks to the ancient origins of the Games, a bit 'because finally the Italian team is back to shine in this specialty: from 1 to 11 August then, so be focused on Tamberi, Jacobs, Iapichino & Co. Tennis is also expected to rain medals, especially the Wimbledon finalist Jasmine Paolini, number 5 in the world ranking: the appointment is at the Roland-Garros stadium, from July 27 to August 4.

Finally, great expectations from the world of shooting and archery, historical disciplines in which the Italian national team has always bought gold medals: the first races will take place from 27 July to 5 August, the second from 28 July to 4 August. Will be respectively 7 and 4 athletes who will try to achieve the goal: eyes on Danilo Danis Sollazzo, class 2002, rifle discipline, his first Olympic experience but already a silver medal at the World Championships.

Even lovers of team sport can dream of a medal. The men’s and women’s volleyball is ready for the siege of the podium: the boys of coach De Giorgi will open the dance on July 27 against Brazil, while the girls of the coach Julio Velasco will cross the Dominican Republic on July 28. Great absent Tsar Ivan Zaytsev, perhaps close to retirement from volleyball and ready to launch into the beach: the goal is the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028. Settebello and Setterosa of water polo are also ready: the first will debut on 28 July against the United States, the second on 29 against the hosts of France.

Football, basketball and rugby fans will be left dry: the eleven Azzurri did not qualify for the Olympic Games from Beijing 2008, Italbasket was beaten in the preliminary stages by Puerto Rico and Lithuania; stop in the bud of qualifying for the oval ball.

However, they can console themselves by deepening the sports added in this 33rd edition. Like every Olympics in fact, the classic disciplines are flanked by four less canonical disciplines: this year will be the time of sport climbing, surfing, skateboarding (already present in past editions) and, novelty among the news, the break dance.

In all four, Italy will be represented:

  • Leonardo Fioravanti surfing, from 27 to 31 July.
  • Alex Sorgente and Alessandro Mazzara: in skateboarding, from 27 to 28 July and from 6 to 7 August.
  • BGirl Anti aka Antilai Sandrini: in break dance, from 9 to 10 August.
  • Matteo Zurloni, Laura Rogora, Camilla Moroni, Beatrice Colli: climbing, from 5 to 10 August.
