The 5 most absurd scenes of the Oscars

Between the best and worst moments, the Oscars are confirmed year after year as generators of scandal and strong emotions

By

13 March, and for us Italians, the night between 12 and 13 March, is the fateful moment when the Oscars 2023 will be awarded, visible on the Sky Cinema Oscar and SkyUno channels, in streaming on Now, or on the Tv8 channel.

In anticipation of one of the most interesting events in the world, we recall the scenes that kept us glued to the screen the most, from the most recent to the most dated.

2022: Will Smith punches Chris Rock

While Chris Rock was introducing the award for best documentary, he let slip an unpleasant joke about the hair of Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith's wife suffering from alopecia. It was blatantly a sketch for the Oscar ceremony and referred to the actress' shaved hair. Will Smith, for his part, did not take the joke well and reacted by violently hitting the comedian's face.

2017: Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty call the wrong winner on stage.

“La La Land” is declared best film and the mistake is spotted after the entire cast takes the stage and makes their respective emotional thank-you speeches. Only when the film's producer Jordan Horowitz declares by showing the correct card that the real winner was “Moonlight” the situation becomes clearer.

2015: Neil Patrick Harris shows up on stage in his underwear.

Host of the ceremony in 2015, actor Neil Patrick Harris appeared on stage half-naked: a tribute to “Birdman”, the film of the year, which won four statuettes in 2015.

2013: Jennifer Lawrence's fall down the stairs.

Actress Jennifer Lawrence was the second youngest person to win an Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role when she was asked to accept the award for her performance in the film “Il lato positivo”, fell disastrously on the stairs of the Dolby Theatre.

1973: Marlon Brando rejects the Oscar.

He was awarded the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role for “The Godfather” and he does not show up. In his place he sends Sacheen Littlefeather, a Native American activist who wears traditional Apache dress and speaks on his behalf: “With great regret, he cannot accept this very generous award. The reasons for this are the film industry's treatment of American Indians today”.
