5 tips to discover Gili Islands

Useful pointers for those who want to indulge in a vacation in Indonesia among Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air

By

Very long beaches washed by crystal clear waters and surrounded by almost untouched nature. This is more or less the scenery that everyone would like to find themselves admiring when they arrive at their chosen vacation destination. And it is the spectacle that faces those who choose one of the three Gili islands, Trawangan, Meno and Air, as their destination for a trip to discover a small glimpse of the great treasure chest that is Indonesia.

In order to best appreciate the Gili archipelago, the Travel Report that Klarna - the giant of artificial intelligence-assisted payments and shopping services - has prepared ahead of summer 2024 may come in handy, highlighting the main travel trends of Italians, who for the vast majority would be moved by the search for relaxation, in short, a passion for soft travel. But the desire to discover new places and cultures also represents a rather powerful engine that drives our compatriots to embark on adventures to distant lands.

And as it turns out, the Gili Islands, which can be reached by a two-hour boat ride from Bali, manage to be a mutually satisfying destination for those seeking both rest and adventure, surrounded by millennia-old culture, lush nature and a relaxing tropical atmosphere.

There are some pointers to keep in mind to best approach this adventure and optimize available time and resources:

1. Begin the trip from the largest island, Trawangan, by snorkeling, booking a boat trip, and renting a bicycle with which to explore the coast and interior.

2. Continue exploring the Gili with Air, a stopover between the lively atmosphere of Trawangan and the more reflective atmosphere of Meno, where you can experience beach massages while admiring the sunset, a dinner with your feet in the sand, or a movie screening on the beach.

3. Leave Gili Meno for last: it is the smallest, sparsest and most authentic. A situation to be maximized by waiting for the sunset at one of the many beach clubs, swimming among the underwater statues, walking around the island.

4. Travel in the off-season, when accommodation costs are lower, there are fewer tourists, and you can best enjoy the atmosphere of the Gili.

5. Make your vacation to Indonesia even more sustainable by taking advantage of the Klarna app, which allows you to installment the cost of lodging and activities on the islands, focusing only on the journey and the nuances of the sunset.
