Sanremo: the magic of an iconic festival that still fascinates the Italian public

What we expect from the 2024 edition

By

Because Sanremo is Sanremo! That was the theme song of the 46th and 52nd editions of the Sanremo festival. And what if the iconic phrase became a question? Why Sanremo is Sanremo? Kermesse canora born in 1951 and moved to the Ariston Theatre since 1977, over time it has become increasingly talked about. Let's face it: even those who swear they don't see it, always grant a peek, whether on the evening itself or the following day via the media, which punctually report on the show.

The music is not enough, even though it is the festival of Italian song, the musical carousel must be interspersed, filled out, made appealing even to those who do not have a purely musical ear and may not be able to appreciate the songs after the first listen.

There have been dark years, but for some time now Sanremo has been back on track, with its more or less expected twists and turns, with gossip, with fashion, with sometimes divisive but always very varied guests. And this is mainly thanks to the artistic direction of Amadeus, who manages to keep a festival that, let us not forget, remains musical, balanced like the best of jugglers.

What can we expect from the next Sanremo? Have we really seen it all in the last few years between singers making scenes, passionate kisses, controversial monologues? A long time ago, the great Pippo Baudo even saved a person from committing suicide live on air.

Speaking of Amadeus, a photo posted a few days ago made fans of the presenter and his friend Gerry Scotti go crazy. The two appeared to be having a breakfast... of work! After a short while, fans started hoping for a co-hosting. Nothing is confirmed, just as there is still no confirmation of singers or guests.

The names of the competing artists circulating in various media, however, are many and varied. From the big names of song such as Cesare Cremonini, Gigi d'Alessio and Negramaro, to the younger ones such as rapper Tedua, to Angelina Mango, winner of Amici, daughter of the great Mango, or Matteo Bocelli, son of the famous tenor.

There will also be several groups: The Kolors (recently returned to the stage) and the Pinguini Tattici Nucleari. There is no shortage, at least in the forecasts, of young but already established singers such as Alessandra Amoroso, Emma Marrone and Annalisa.

Perhaps it is the splendid setting of a theatre, the Ariston, which, according to the artists, is as intimidating as few others, perhaps it is the iconic staircase that changes its appearance but also remains true to itself, perhaps it is that it is a fixed appointment that as Italians makes us proud, the fact is that Sanremo really is Sanremo and we can't wait to enjoy it. Again.
