In the United States, governed by a president who loves walls and BigMacs instead of diplomacy and wisdom, Lori Lightfoot’s election as the new mayor of Chicago seems a signal of how things are hopefully going to change.
The new mayor is an Afroamerican and openly homosexual lawyer who devoted her career to fighting corruption and discrimination.
Lightfoot, 56, beat her rival with an astonishing result, the 73% of votes, and she celebrated kissing her wife (they also have a daughter together). Together with Michelle Obama, the Windy City has a brand new female representative. The girl power wave is finally thriving.
