Olivia Rodrigo: The American singer with millions of streams

With the release of the new album GUTS Rodrigo confirmed that the melancholy look is his accomplice and sad songs his strong

By

Carrie Bartan in the New Yorker called her the natural heir of Lorde and Billie Eilish. Listen to the White Stripes because "they are real", she is a friend of Jenna Ortega on Wednesday, she debuted in the Disney world from a very young age and the song that changed her life is Driver’s license. Olivia Rodrigo is this and then it’s much more.

The unexpected success didn’t make her a star. It’s not the billions of streams that have taken the air of spontaneous girl. At Wired, for example, she confessed that the thought of the license still makes her suffer: they failed the exam because of the broken horn of the mother’s car.

Her insecurities are fiercely heard and the songs she writes speak of herself. Come Vampire, one of the latest hits on Spotify has 664 million streams.

In 2021 she was named "Showperson of the Year" by TIME and the year after "Woman of the Year" by Billboard. And in the meantime, she sang with Billy Joel and Avril Lavigne.

With GUTS - which means "having the guts" - a world tour is waiting for him starting in February and on June 9th she will delight Italy with a date in Bologna.

There is vulnerability in her new album. To be grasped in the basics and in the lyrics. If Rodrigo’s daily routine involves waking up in the morning with 2 macadamia nuts and a Macha tea, another constant is writing. He would never abandon her.

She takes inspiration from the chats in family and among friends and writes the most relevant "notes" and then turns them into songs. The love for rock and folk comes from the influence of parents. Music is rooted in her childhood and reflected in references, working method and intolerance in being called popstar

"There is an archetype of what a popstar should be, and I never thought about myself in those terms, even though it’s the term people use to describe me", he said in a recent interview.
