Artificial intelligence, with its enveloping aura of mystery and innovation, is slowly but inexorably permeating the fabric of education. As any revolution, it brings with it promises and dangers, dreams and nightmares.
On the one hand, AI promises to personalize learning, creating tailored paths for each student, monitoring performance and intervening where needed.
Imagine a world where every student has a virtual tutor, always present, who knows their weaknesses and strengths. A world where learning is no longer a one-size-fits-all, but a custom-made suit, tailored to the needs of each individual.
But it's not all sunshine and rainbows.
Students, increasingly adept at using technology, are starting to use tools like Chat Open AI or Bard to complete their assignments. For example, an essay written by an AI can be indistinguishable from one written by a human. And while some see this as an opportunity, others fear that we are losing something fundamental: the learning process itself.

George Veletsianos, a researcher in the field of technology and learning, points out that the texts generated by systems like OpenAI's API are technically original products. This means that plagiarism software cannot detect them. But this raises a crucial question: are we training students or simply content consumers?
And then there is the ethical issue. AI could be used in a discriminatory way, favoring students with a higher socioeconomic background. And what about student data protection? In an era when privacy is increasingly under siege, how can we ensure that our children's sensitive data is safe?
But perhaps the biggest question of all is this: what does all of this mean for the future of education? Is school, as we know it, ready for this revolution? Or are we destined to sail by sight, trying to keep up with a technology that is evolving faster than we can understand?

Just as the invention of the calculator meant that people no longer knew how to do mental calculations, but left room for more complex mathematical reasoning, we believe that AI, if used well, can be a valuable tool.
Even if there is a risk of losing the “way” to get to a product, the basic thinking will be human. It will therefore be more useful and necessary to train in “how” to communicate to AI the creative concept that you want to express, rather than expressing it directly.
This will allow us to have more time and mental energy to develop even more concepts, further enriching the landscape of innovation and creativity.
In this field too, AI has the potential to make radical transformations. But like any powerful tool, it must be used wisely and with discernment. The challenge for educators, students and parents will be to navigate these turbulent waters, seeking to make the most of AI without losing sight of what is truly important: authentic and meaningful learning.
