What happened to Las Ketchups?

Yes indeed, the three Spanish sisters who in the summer of 2002 made us sing and dance to the notes of Aserejé

By

Lola, Pilar and Lucía Munoz, originally from Cordova, daughters of the very talented guitarist Juan, known as El Tomate, represented the perfect formula for pleasing everyone: beautiful and not vulgar, slightly mischievous and colourful.

None of us bothered to understand what the song Asereje was saying, we liked it and we liked them and then you know, it's not summer without a catchphrase in Spanish.

The trio, after the huge success of the single but certainly not of the whole album, disappeared for two years before, at least in Italy, returning to Sanremo in 2004 with the song "Single" together with Danny Losito.

In 2006, they took part in the Eurovision Song Contest with "Un Blodymary", arriving only twenty-first without much success afterwards.

Meanwhile, they were joined by their fourth sister, Rocìo, who was on maternity leave at the time of Aserejé.

For several years, these sparkling Spanish sisters lost track of each other until an appearance on our TVs in 2010.

2020 saw them collaborate with singer Valeria Rossi on a single "Grisbi Summer Mania", more of an advertisement for the aforementioned brand than a song.

The Rai programme "I migliori anni" hosted them this year and, needless to say, everyone in the studio and at home sang and danced to Aserejé.

The success of their signature song, but also of other old and new catchphrases, shows us how a song can be so powerful that it can stick in everyone's head even for years but so ephemeral that it does not guarantee lasting success.

And Las Ketchup have tried over the years to replicate or at least come close again to the success of Aserejé, but at least to date this remains their only real musical triumph.

They have never given up music, dedicating themselves to different projects and will never do so completely, perhaps because they grew up on bread and guitar thanks to their father, and this desire to continue singing can also be seen on their IG profile, a profile, theirs, colourful and lively with these sisters always smiling and ready to set any stage on fire.

And so, a bit nostalgic, we hope for their sake and for ours that they can return to make us dance and go wild by replicating the success of Aserejé with another catchphrase.

For now, we can only content ourselves with following them on their official profile @lasketchup_official.
