2023 music: the events, promos, artists and songs that left us something more

A series of shows that are worth telling

By

Let’s put it this way: numerous. The musical operations put in place in 2023 were numerous. Just think of the Club Dogo that come back together, Elodie that sends in ecstasy the palazzetti, Dimartino and Colapesce that spoiled the breakup of the duo and the Cani and Baustelle that publish an unexpected album together. The same number of soldouts, mixed emotions, non trivial debuts, the summer hits, like saying, insistent.  The music market grew by 11.1% compared to 2022: total turnover over 370 million euros. It is thanks to these figures that Italy has ranked 11th in the global ranking of music markets (Federazione Industria Musicale Italiana). All worthy, for charity. But what are the events, promos, artists and songs that have left, for better or worse, something more?

The Italian Beyonce has certainly made her own. Elodie officially closed the tour on Instagram, grateful to all the people who together set up the amazing tour, talking about "acquired awareness". A riot of energy. The changed looks given by date under the eye of the attentive stylist Alba Melendo (Diesel, Gucci, Blumarine, Valentino, Schiaparelli and so on), the adrenaline duets with the fake rival Annalisa, Piero Pelù, Sfera Ebbasta, Giorgia and emotions in the sunlight, the tears on stage in front of Renato Zero. The Roman artist this year has shown a credibility that today it is difficult to question. Fortunately.

Absent for 5 years from the discography, he returns after Evergreen with Relax. Calcutta’s album also deserves to be reviewed. Defined by Rolling Stones "the record of maturity" tells the evolution of a young artist who seems to have grown. With music and with consciousness. Some tracks like Controtempo, Giro con te with the timid quote to Battisti and Tutti mean something that goes beyond the single, the base and the text. They become the emblem of a true poetic manifesto that has little to do with relaxing, as the title would suggest, and much more with reality. A difficult world probably also deserves to be sung.

On a similar trail, symbols of the Italian singer-songwriter engaged, Colapesce and Dimartino, after three records, of which the last Lux Eterna Beach and a film together, have announced the separation. A joint decision, apparently made to explore new artistic paths. With Ragazzo di destra, they sparked the controversy of right-wing newspapers precisely, with Musica leggerissima and Splash won over the mainstream audience, with La primavera della mia vita, a demonstration of sophistication and innovation. An exploration of art in the eyes of many incomprehensible, high, yet so clear.

The Dogo Clubs that announce La Réunion with Beppe Sala and Claudio Santamaria protagonists of the promo video, all Milanese, have nothing more to learn. To speak are the numbers: 10 dates announced in 2024 at the Assago forum of which already 8 soldouts.

Finally the event par excellence, the rap festival of records. Marrageddon Marracash wrote the story. And he did it with the numbers that speak for him. 140 thousand spectators between Milan and Naples. A work of over 200 people, 7 hours of hip hop per show. A great celebration of the rap world of the last 50 years topped by Fabri Fibra, Salmo, Guè, Madame, Blanco, Lazza, Geolier and many others. If to define himself "king of rap" 12 years ago he was himself, victim of an ego as big as a house, to date the title is sacrosanct.
