Facebook dating: the social media becomes a digital Cupid

Forget Tinder, now Facebook Dating can be your new favourite dating app

By

It has been announced at a conference in 2018. In United States and other nineteen countries, the Dating feature is already working since september 2019 and has given 1,5  billion “match”, chances to date somebody. Now it has been officially introduced in Europe.

In order to use Facebook Dating you must be 18 years-old. You just need to enable the specific option from the social network and create your profile. Personal information, like name and age, cannot be changed but you can choose your orientation and your gender.

Swipe left and swipe right do not exist, Dating aims for a deeper connection between its users. Adding some of Facebook distinctive features, like video chat and stories, the intent is to create real conversations and not only a “match”. In fact, if you think that a profile is interesting, you can send them a text or comment one of their picture. After you send the text, you can write them again only if the other user is interested in you too.

I know what you are thinking. Isn’t it already awkward enough to have a profile on a dating app? What if I see some of my Facebook friends? Well, your profile is completely private and it doesn’t show any of your friends, unless you want it. In fact, there is a Dating option that allows you to choose a maximum of nine Facebook friends and put them in the “secret crush” section. If they do the same with you, there will be a match. If they don’t, it will just be your secret. You know how they say, in love it takes courage and a little bit of fortune.

So, what are you waiting for? Create your profile and wait for Cupid – pardon – Facebook Dating to shoot its arrows.
