"The Black Image Corporation": the evolution of African-American aesthetics

The exhibition in Milan

By

Opened starting September 20th and set up at the Observatory of the Fondazione Prada in Milan, the exhibition "The Black Image Corporation" traces the evolution of African-American aesthetics and in doing so poses social objectives typical of participatory works, works that they structure on the basis of an interaction between spectator, society and artist. The exhibition brings to life some images that in the second half of the twentieth century have defined the contemporary black identity’s canons. The main photographers are Moneta Sleet Jr. and Isaac Sutton. The themes dealt with are among the most varied: politics, black power, sport, sexuality. A unique, univocal path that investigates American history to understand the post-war African American community. The exhibition will be open to the public from September 20th 2018 to January 14th 2019. “The Black Image Corporation”3_acrimoniamagazine “The Black Image Corporation”2_acrimoniamagazine “The Black Image Corporation”_acrimoniamagazine
