On the occasion of the presentation of the film “Explota Explota”, a musical comedy that stages the dream of a girl who, in the 70s, would like to be part of the corps de ballet of a Spanish television program, but having to deal with the backwardness of an oppressive society, the famous British newspaper traces the career of Carrà, whose music accompanies the film. The 77-year-old Bolognese honored the article in The Guardian: “It really surprised me. This time they did it to me”.
Legend of music, style, sexual freedom, gender emancipation and gay icon, beloved in her country but also highly appreciated in Spain, she bravely broke the schemes of the bigotry of the reality of the time, anticipating modernity and resulting still today extremely relevant.

In 1970, at Canzonissima, a broadcast conducted together with Corrado, Raffaella caused a scandal leaving her belly button uncovered.

In 1971 the musical scenes and not only were revolutionized by the "Tuca Tuca", whose text reads:
“This weird dance I'm doing with you It is called: Tuca Tuca, Tuca, I invented it,to be able to tell you: “I like you, I like you, I want you, ah-ah!”
To accentuate the sensual message, Raffaella offers an iconic choreography, which can be replicated by everyone and not just by professional dancers. The Guardian writes in fact: “She used rhythms that no one with blood in their veins can resist”.

In 1976 with “A far l’amore comincia tu” the singer invites women to lead the sexual entercourse , making it a satisfying act for both genders. The song even appears in an episode of “Doctor Who” and its version remixed by DJ Bob Sinclar, contributes to making the scene of the Oscar-winning film “La Grande Bellezza” iconic in which, Jep Gambardella, masterfully interpreted by the actor Toni Servillo, dances on the occasion of his birthday party.
- TANTI AUGURI
The 1978 song “Tanti Auguri” is a pop phenomenon and a further example of sexual freedom and emancipation:
“But turning my land I became convinced that there is no hate there is no war when there is love in bed. How beautiful it is to make love from Trieste downwards,how nice it is to make love, I'm ready and you …”
It is also a message on the importance of consent: “The important thing is to always do it with whoever you want”.
- LUCA
Also in 1978, “Luca” was released, a song that tells of a woman's falling in love with a man who does not reciprocate her sentiment, because he’s homosexual. In this way, for the first time, the subject was faced in a light and frank way, almost unheard of in the Italian Catholic context of those times, but necessary. In 2017, the showgirl is officially recognized as a gay icon, receiving the World Pride Award in Madrid.
How can we forget the 2007 hit by Tiziano Ferro dedicated to her and entitled “E Raffaella è mia”. She is not only the muse behind this song but she is also the protagonist, together with the songwriter, of the music video.
- DAVID LETTERMAN SHOW
In 1986, Raffaella was interviewed in the famous American talk “Letterman Show”. The host, to introduce it her the Americans, defined her “the Italian version of Ed Sullivan and Johnny Carson” but the showgirl promptly scolds him by saying: “I am a woman, if you really have to associate me with someone, I would prefer Ann Margaret and Barbara Walters, but I am simply Raffaella”.
Letterman also asks her: “Do you make a lot of money from your job in Italy?” and she does not hesitate to answer: “Yes, I earn a lot of money, I pay taxes and I consider it a victory for all women, in a time where, usually, it is men who do it”.
