Mischa Barton who played Marissa Cooper in the series not long ago in an interview with "E! Online" talked about her work experience and why she decided to leave the set of The O.C. so soon: "I was given an option. The producers told me that I could vanish at sunset, and maybe come back in the future with some twist, or let the character die and go on with my career”.
So at the end of the third season Marissa Cooper loses her life in Ryan's arms, leaving fans with a bitter taste in the mouth that they have carried around for a long time. After her short but intense journey with the cast of The O.C, the young actress starred in other successful series such as "The Valley of the Pines", "The Beautiful Life" and “Recovery Road”.

Benjamin McKenzie, aka Ryan Atwood, continued to act at the end of the series, focusing more on the cinematic world. In fact, he appeared in films like “The Report” in 2019.

It may not have been love at first sight, at least for Summer, but it was still a great love story on and off the set. The two protagonists in fact dated for three years while working together on the Californian teen-drama, thus crowning the dream of many spectators. However, the two broke up during the last season while continuing to act together.

If in 2007 The O.C. ended with the highly anticipated and highly evolved marriage between Seth and Summer, the two had already taken different paths, sentimentally speaking. Today they find themselves happily married, but not with each other ("Seth" loves "Blair" from Gossip Girl in real life!).
