Small steps. Big impact. by Zalando

The ethical and sustainable collection of eight brands is now available

That we can be sustainable without compromising style is now a certainty.

The latest confirmation comes from the online fashion giant based in Berlin. Indeed, yesterday 25 October, Zalando launched “Small steps. Big impact. by Zalando, a new collaboration with eight European designers present on the platform: Closed, Designer's Remix, Henrik Vibskov, Holzweiler, House of Dagmar, Mother of Pearl, Mykke Hofmann and Progetto Quid.

Compared to the first initiative in January 2020, this time the concept is extended to men's and women's clothing with a single focus: sustainability.

“Sustainability has become one of the most important issues for high-level designers. We live in a world with ever-growing social and environmental awareness. It is important to provide our customers with these options without compromising on style and quality”, says Lena-Sophie Roeper, Buying Director Premium & Luxury, Zalando. “Our goal is to inspire customers to shop more sustainably and we are delighted to do so alongside our brands, proving that collaboration is the way forward”.

For the 116 pieces that will make up this collection, the brands have been guided by a common aesthetic dictated by Zalando and by the awareness in the choice of recycled materials or materials from sustainable sources. The will remains to give customers what they are looking for: the entire range of fashion, from bottom to top and vice versa. The palette recalls the change of seasons and the colors that distinguish autumn. Even the models follow the seasons and are adaptable to both hot and cold climates, thinking precisely of a transitional clothing.

The materials are of high quality, to confirm that there is no need to compromise to be sustainable: organic cotton, smooth lyocell and ecological triacetate. Recycled cotton, wool and polyester reduce the environmental impact of these garments and where possible Zalando provides independent certifications from GOTS, OCS and GRS.

“In recent years, we have made great strides in ensuring greater transparency to identify more sustainable clothing. We want to make sustainable fashion shopping easy, fun and provide the inspiration and information customers are looking for, all in one place”, says Kate Heiny, Zalando's Sustainability Director. “Zalando's presence in the fashion industry places us in a unique position to introduce more sustainable fashion to our more than 34 million active customers in 17 markets, working together with partners who share our vision and ethics. We will continue to do our part to advance the fashion industry on these issues.

Among the eight brands chosen, Progetto Quid represents Italy following the success of a collection with Zalando SS20. Ethical fashion brand made in Italy, Progetto Quid creates its garments using fabrics recovered from unsold or donated stocks, supplied by high-profile Italian textile companies and well-known international fashion brands.

From 25th October, with Zalando, we can all be a little more sustainable and ethical.
