The happiness of being plus size

Praise to elegance in all its variations

By

Years ago I wrote, on my blog back then, a eulogy for the elegance of a young curvy model. As a director I have always been such a close-up aesthete that often, looking at a face on the monitor, I could empathize with the character in the frame: for example, twice I discovered in advance the pregnancy, concealed by two well-known women of the show.

So, returning to the model in question, kidnapped by her Close Up, I decanted the depth of her eyes, inviting everyone to go to her site rosiemercado.com; I don’t know if she still exists. I quote a fragment: “She has two deep eyes, capable of examining your soul”.

It’s a wonderful response to all the aspiring top models who, to get to the top, are subjected to exhausting diets, perhaps accompanied by bad chemicals. But the designers, the fashion gurus, want them this way: anorexic and angry, imposing on thousands of girls a cultural model that borders on crime.

Pushing a young girl to a poor nutrition leads to anorexia and if not cured in time, to safe death. So, these so-called “maitre d’étain”, commit a double criminal offence: incitement to suicide and apology of crime. Now you can also understand that most designers don’t love women, but why hate them?

They claim, in total intellectual dishonesty, that thinness is equivalent to elegance and lead for example the divine Audrey Hepburn, in contrasting gay icon. Nothing could be more false: elegance is a state of mind and I add, quoting Coco Chanel is the lack of vulgarity. Too easy to take the wonderful Hepburn, everyone’s icon, as a paradigm.

Rosie, with her smile, was serene in wearing a size 54/56, was happy with her three children and was and is an excellent professional in the music field, as a DJ and TV, as a presenter and opinion leader.

It happens that fate is always lurking, ready to strike when one least expects it; taking an airplane flight is forced to pay for two seats because of the basin too wide. 186 kg in fact are many and in the long run lead to complications, often irreversible. Apart from the humiliation of the thing, happened in public, Rosie opens a health problem, before which only a doctor can talk.

After consulting with her children, Rosie embarks on a hard journey under medical supervision, based on a strict diet and subsequent operation. Difficult months, however, allowed her to lose about 100kg. Today she is even happier than then and continues to be much followed and loved on various social networks. Sympathy is not lost with a diet.

It happens, because it happens, eh, that “the mother of stupids is always pregnant”; the weight loss have started several messages miners, the web has been unleashed and the “fans”, opposed to the loss of forms by Rosie have covered with insults, threatened with death, until they ordered her to “jump off a bridge” and kill herself. Do I need to comment?

From a human point of view, I am happy for you, I imagine that your quality of life has radically changed for the better, especially with regard to health. From my artistic point of view, I don’t think I’ll ever find that Close-Up again... but I don’t care!
