It seems like yesterday: Kim was crying out loud in the crystal clear Polynesian waters, complaining about the loss of her very expensive diamond earrings. Kourtney
was there too, telling her to stop: “Kim, there are people who are dying”
(iconic). It seems like yesterday: Kim wearing tape to fit in her low-cut dresses, Kim going out and about in LA with Paris Hilton, rocking tacky Louis Vuitton bags, Kim posing naked under mom Kris’s enthusiastic eye.
Today, Kim Kardashian is a role model, followed by 178 million people (on Instagram only), a whole phenomenon which fascinates both young girls and old ladies, a walking brand capable of selling any kind of product, no matter how weird or useless it is.
It’s hard to tell precisely when Kim turned into such an entrepreneur, but her marriage seems the most probable turning point of her career. She herself admitted that her husband, Kanye West, shaped her newest image. The rapper’s singular and trailblazing choices in terms of fashion and music paved the way to turn Kim herself into a sort of living art installation, very sophisticated and yet very popular.
Kim could definitely be defined as the face of the “roaring ‘10s”: her perfectly symmetric face, embellished by a very neat make up made by hypnotizing smokey eyes and nude lips, and her sinuous body, wrapped up in revealing and flashing clothes, shaped the contemporary fashion taste. It was Kim’s fault when girls started to follow make up tutorials to learn how to blend dark eyeshadows, or when they bought shorts and PVC heels, to look like her in a Yeezy commercial.

However, she’s not just a sensual doll to be dressed up in dreamy Versace and Mugler gowns: Kim is surely the klan’s workaholic
. She founded KKW
, a beauty brand, which came way sooner than Kylie’s one, and Skims
, a lingerie and house wear brand, which was very controversial since its debut. Kim faced several critics from all over the world, having named her brand Kimono, which was considered a rude sign of cultural appropriation. Of course her collaborations with brands have become uncountable. She’s also the perfect cover girl
. Her most absurd and debated cover might be the one for Paper Magazine: her naked and oily body is the cover’s main feature, she’s smiling at the camera while balancing a flute of champagne on her perfectly shaped derrière.
She really did break the internet, as the cover’s title suggested.
That’s the reason why our favorite Met Gala look’s probably the one from last year, a sensual Mugler she wore to celebrate the ultimate camp exhibition. Kim herself is the natural and yet artificial embodiment of camp: she’s the symbol of an exaggerated contemporary extravaganza, in which anyone feels the need to show off on Instagram, manipulating the reality through makeup, surgery, filters…
Whilst being a sex symbol outside, she’s also a doting mother and housewife in her Calabasas mansion. Her children are the cutest ones, no matter their bizarre names which are alla about geography and the Bible, and her house is so huge, essential, and sophisticated, and also the set of one the most seen Vogue’s “73 questions with” videos.
And this might only be the beginning. Kim could potentially become the future First Lady of the United States, since Kanye recently announced he’s going to run for the 2020 elections. Whilst his political move might seem controversial, it would be both disruptive and amazing to see Kim as the next Flotus, rocking some more serious and elegant outfits and fighting for good causes. She’s also studying to become a lawyer, just like her dad, and aid the most vulnerable minorities, such as women of color.
Kim’s phenomenology is too wide to be fully covered, she’s really like a butterfly, always undergoing a major metamorphosis. We can’t wait for the next one.
