Intellectuals, strong thinking and the virus... of sick politics

The new safety measures of Mario Draghi's government sparked new debates and gave rise to further conspiracy theories, fuelling the storm of the no vax movement: who is really defending democracy?

By

In recent days, we had already witnessed the impetuousness of two intellectuals, regarding the security measures adopted by the Draghi government, with regard to Covid 19; in particular with regard to the green pass.

Massimo Cacciari and Giorgio Agamben indulged in ethical and legal considerations on the extended state of emergency, on the presentation of the green pass and on the imposition of control that unauthorised persons are required to do, under penalty of penalties. They have feared scenarios of doom that risk leading to a totalitarian regime. They did so without taking into account the gravity of the current context, without the due leniency towards human error, which is inevitable when dealing with "something that is not known" and which changes constantly. Above all, they did so without taking into account the necessary objective: to conclude the vaccination of over three million over 50s and therefore of the entire population, to prevent the virus from continuing to mutate. Herd immunity is realistically a chimera, until the whole planet is vaccinated and with many other vaccines. In short, philosophical discourses with a wrong perspective.

It must be said that the two intellectuals remained silent throughout Conte’s second government, where macroscopic errors were made, where all the impositions were intended to sow a sense of terror in the population, with the complicity of almost all of the media. They were silent in the face of the madness of the Alzano hospital and the R.S.A. as well as in the case of masks, respirators, territorial medicine, up to the wheeled school desks and the clouds in the square for the vaccination campaign. Because human errors are one thing, but fraud against the Public Administration is quite another; at the end of the affair, a parliamentary commission will be urgently needed. Someone will say: "for what it's worth", well yes it is, in a parliamentary democracy. They talk about totalitarian risk now that, hopefully, we are on the last mile to put us all in safety.

Not to be outdone, the historian Franco Cardini, an intellectual with a cultural matrix different from the first two, who intervened in the debate raised by Massimo Cacciari and Giorgio Agamben, precisely on the theme of the green pass, proposes a theory that briefly says: "The great economic-financial lobbies and multinationals, taking advantage of the climate of fear and uncertainty created by Sars-Cov-2, are making a pact to orient Western democracies towards a totalitarian sense”.

This is planetary conspiracy. The curious thing is that everyone wants to defend democracy by attacking the same governments that represent it. Power of thought!

But the "golden thought" of summer rightfully belongs to the journalist Massimo Fini, of the "Fatto Quotidiano", who writes shortly before mid-August:

If we left Nature to do what nature belongs to, that is thinning out the population when it is in abundance, Covid would have died of starvation and would have lasted a couple of years. The epidemic would have reappeared in a different form after a few decades as it was for all the epidemics of the past ”. To then continue with:By obtusely opposing the covid, we prolong its existence: it is better to leave it to nature. Thinning out the population when it is in overabundance and the virus would have lasted a couple of years - I don't understand why in order to save septuagenarians or octogenarians, generally suffering from two or three serious diseases, the life of entire generations has been blocked. May the one who must die die and let's stop with this tragic farce”.

Truth is, in those days the highest heat peaks of the summer had been reached and it is known that too hot is not good for both coronary arteries and circulation, but more than a strong thought it seems the invocation of the Apocalypse.

However, a suspicion arises regarding the no vax movement. We know, because sociologists tell us, that the no vax are a small minority in the world, about 5%; we know that they are of medium-low social extraction and of poor culture. We know, because it is always the sociologists who explain it, that the influencers who guide the no vax, on the contrary, are of medium-high extraction, for the most part graduated and mainly young people; there are those who claim that they are also vaccinated! The suspicion is that these influencers, denying Covid and demonising vaccines, try to apply, in a subtle way, the strong thought (in the face of Zygmunt Bauman) expressed by Massimo Fini.

Like a sort of “infamous column”, in Manzoni's memory.

I know: "Thinking badly makes you sin ..."
