Måneskin dancing on top of the world: Beggin' is the most listened song on Spotify Global

Following their victory at Eurovision, the roman band now occupies the first place of the 200 most listened songs in the world

By

If someone had told Victoria, Damiano, Ethan e Thomas that one day they’d go from singing in the streets of Rome to being first in the Spotify Global chart, maybe they wouldn’t have believed it. Maybe, because since the very beginning Måneskin distinguished themselves for their unmeasurable ambition.

The hunger for reaching goals and following dreams which characterizes young people immediately marked their rock. With dedication and humbleness (but not too much), the roman band moved to the studio, on a mission to find that something which would turn an Italian group in an international success.

The spark was born and fueled with their participation to the 11th edition of X Factor Italia in 2017, refined by the precious support of their mentor Manuel Agnelli. Agnelli chose them for his team and accompanied the guys during the talent show up to the final. “I got a plan in my mind and I won’t let go” they sang in their first single, Chosen, anticipating a clear project for the future of the band. Even though they arrived second, Måneskin signed with Sony Music and got to work.

The result was their debut album Il Ballo della Vita, which contains the singles Torna a Casa and Morirò da Re. The songs are two faces of the same coin: on one hand, the scratchy voice of Damiano follows the mysterious Marlena with romantic melancholy ; on the other, the polite  yet firm impudence of the four takes Marlena on top of the world. “Come fuoco avanzerò per prender tutto quanto”, and so it was.

After an incredible double success at Sanremo and at the 2021 Eurovision, the Måneskin  phenomenon exploded. At first in Europe, where they even entered the UK top 10 and trended on all social medias. Now, the whole world loves them. Their cover of Beggin', which dates back to their X Factor era, surpassed Olivia Rodrigo and Ed Sheeran. With more than 7.4 millions of streaming, the song is the first in Spotify’s Global Chart of the 200 most listened song in the world.

Damiano, Ethan, Thomas and Victoria honored this success with a trip down memory lane, very conscious of everything it took them to be where they are now. The celebratory Instagram post features portraits of their childhood, with the caption “These kids just made it to the first place in the global chart”.

Those same faces ended up in Times Square, too, in the New York Times and to be honest, a bit all over the place online. Thus, it is impossible not to turn them into big smiles for their achievements at such young age.

The recipe for Måneskin’s success is still a bit of a mystery for some, however for many it is as clear as a moonlight, which is the English translation for their Danish name. First, a nice dose of good, old and passionate rock n’roll, which as they claimed on the stage of the Eurovision “never dies”. Then a certain look, cured in every detail but at the same time extremely natural and fluid, un-trapped in any kind of standard. These guys play with their image, re-inventing it against every convention with the support of Made in Italy brands like Etro and Gucci.

Given all of this, it is no surprise that even Simon Cowell, the well-known manager behind One Direction and the creation of talent show formats including X Factor, showed interest in the Italian band. Fighters for equality and respect, these good guys are real sons of their generation. Which is why we simply couldn’t be happier to see them dancing their ballo della vita on top of the world.
