Bambina Bambolina: the cyber-feminist soul of Yoniro's new single

Feminine energy, past and future, in a song with an irresistible beat

By

How to define Bambina Bambolina, Yoniro's new single? Like a steel flower.

A flower, because it's built on a light, rarefied voice, which almost seems to lull the listener. Steel because it stings, with a sharp, ferocious rhythm and words that leave a mark, full of meaning.

Yoniro is one of the most interesting songwriters on the Italian scene, a gypsy artist inspired by the moon, by dreams, art in all its flavours and (yes) Instagram. We interviewed her a few months ago, in a dialogue that opened a window on her world, on her inspirations, on her ideas.

At the end of this complicated, difficult 2020, Yoniro releases the single Bambina Bambolina, a  battle hymn for all the modern Joan of Arc: on a techno, futuristic, disco beat, Yoniro builds the story of these new 2020s, creating a comparison with the Roaring Twenties of the early 1900s, for the common atmosphere of crisis, uncertainty, but also epochal change. At the center, the female energy, the Bambina, the essence contained in all women, but also in those men who reject the standards of toxic masculinity and the Bambolina, a new idea of a perfect woman, free from stereotypes and proudly self - defined.

A dedication, a rebirth motto perfect for dancing, in the words of Yoniro: it is first and foremost a dedication to my mother and to all those women who grew up unaware of patriarchal oppression, women who grew old losing their dreams and opportunities”.

The song is accompanied by a visualizer that captures the essence of the project: a 3D artwork created by the Californian artist Nusi Quero, which combines a futuristic post-apocalyptic mood and Art Noveau influences, where the naked and bionic body of Yoniro, captured by the  photographer Meiji Nguyen, represents a new, futuristic and almost androgynous canon on which every woman can sculpt their future.
